Behaviorism Learning Theory is the idea that how a student behaves is based on their interaction with their environment.And as students understand how their thinking impacts their learning and behavior, they can have more control over it. Cognitive Learning Theory understands that learners can be influenced by both internal and external elements.Kinesthetic learner (experiments, hands on activities)įleming, like several other learning style theorists, believed in the importance for people to know and be comfortable with different learning styles, especially their own way of learning so that they could understand how they and others learn best.Reading and writing learner (making lists, reading textbooks, taking notes).Auditory learner (music, discussion, lectures).Visual learner (movie, pictures, graphs).According to the VARK model, learners are identified by the type of learner they were: Fleming developed the acronym, VARK, which stands for visual, auditory, reading, and kinesthetic. One of the most widely adopted theories was developed by Neil Fleming in 1987. The concept of learning styles traces some of its origins back to 334 BC when Aristotle theorized that “every child possessed specific talents and skills.” After Aristotle recognized children had these differences, the concept of learning styles formed, and researchers began developing their own theories.
